When we found our home at 31 Bloomingdale ave.  I was instantly drawn to the charm of Catonsville as we drove through the town to the house.  As we entered the property, you felt like you were entering your own secluded private oasis while still having close proximity to downtown.  7 years ago we realized it was time to have my husband's parents live with us, this home offered us the ability to give them a home where they could live independently and self-contained in their own space, while having us right next door when needed.  We loved that we still would have plenty of bedrooms and space on our side so that our adult children and their families could come and visit and stay.  The expansive back deck was a huge selling point and we have spent many days and evenings out on it enjoying BBQs with new friends, enjoying being able to sit and hear the music from Frederick Road Fridays in the air, to the faint cheering of football games at the high school. We were also thrilled to find a home with off street parking AND an attached 2 car garage!        What we love about our home is being able to sit on the back deck after a long day at work enjoying a cocktail and watching the sky change as the sun sets.  We love having an open concept kitchen to living room area, it makes hosting the big holidays and get togthers a breeze especially being able to open the double sliders out to the back deck.  Having the space in the basement for the kids to have their own space to be able to hang out and watch movies is priceless.  I've enjoyed many quiet mornings sitting on the master bedroom balcony enjoying my first cup of coffee watching the sunrise and listening to the birds sing.  I love that even though we are in town, you will see the occasional fox or bunny run through the yard. 

Since purchasing this home, we have completed the following upgrades:

New roof installed,
New upgraded HVAC system with extra ducting to upper floors for expanded cooling,
New gas hot water heater,
New luxury laminate flooring in office/ dining room areas,
Upgraded ceiling fan in living room and added ceiling fans to bedrooms, 
Updated main floor 1/2 bath,
Updated finished basement to a man cave/ movie room- Added wine fridge
Added a garden shed and raised vegetable garden beds.  For the last 7 years I have worked the yard, adding plants so that from early spring to late fall something is always blooming.


Our neighborhood has many families with multiple children,  There are always kids out playing, riding their bikes.    What we love about Catonsville is the sense of small town.   We can walk everywhere.  We love that we know we will always run into someone we know on walks with our dogs.  We walk downtown to the restaurants, music festivals, arts festivals, food truck Thursdays, Santa coming to town, Fourth of July parade.  We can ride our bikes from our house into Paptasco Park.  A short 5 minute drive and you can be in Old Ellicot City and all it has to offer with shopping and additional restaurants, festivals, movie nights at the Wine Bin, etc.   We love the easy access to all the rail trails for walking and biking also.                 "Some of our favorite restaurants in the area are El Guapo- taco Tuesdays are the best! State Fare is the best place to sit outside on a nice day or evening, or enjoy the best weekend brunch in town and watch your favorite sports on the big outdoor screens.  Our favorite

"" hole in the wall"" is GL Shacks, they have amazing chicken wings and a surprisingly good dinner menu as well.   The Atlantic on the edge of town is a great addition to the dining selections and we have not had a bad meal there since they opened! In this area you have a wide variety of grocery stores, for your basics, Giant or Safeway are always good.  H Mart offers amazing selections of produce and fresh seafood, sushi and things you won't find anywhere else.  Lidl is always a favorite for great prices and fun finds.      We moved to this area of Maryland because we felt it was perfectly situated for wherever you needed to be.  It is perfectly located off 95 and 495 to give you access to drive into Baltimore or DC for work.    Easy access to BWI airport makes it a breeze to travel or have family visit.  If you love the outdoors, within minutes you can be in a state park hiking, biking, enjoying nature.   You can be to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and all it has to offer within 15 minutes.  Annapolis is just a short 20-30 minute drive away.  Major League sporting events  are easily accessible and always a fun outing.  If you like concerts, Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia is a 15 minute drive away.  In Catonsville, you will find great schools.  Everyone we knows has nothing but good things to say about the local schools.   There is a lovely public library right downtown that offers many fun family activities all year round.  Within the community you will also find 2 college campuses, CCBC and University of Maryland.   Downtown also offers many little shops, hair salons, bike shops, pottery painting, a Taekwondo studio, ice cream shops as well as many dining options.
