What the Seller Wants You to Know:
When we found this home, we were really looking for more space for our two daughters. We knew we needed more bathrooms. This house was in a great neighborhood, close to amazing schools, and had the space we needed. The back of the house had extra space beyond the other ranchers nearby, which gave our older daughter the chance to have a little more privacy away from the other bedrooms. The finished basement was also huge; a big open area that we could adjust as the kids grew. The backyard is surrounded by privacy fences so that even though neighbors are close, when we were back there it felt pretty quiet and secluded. The layout of the yard also was great for separating space so that we could have a garden that animals couldn't get to. The addition adds great space, almost a separate wing that was perfect for our older daughter who could then have more of her own space. It also allowed us to have two living rooms, one in the front that was nicer when you walked in, and then a rear family room where all the fun could be.
Also, a trail head to Patapsco state park is literally 300 steps from the house. (Yes, we have counted) The trail leads behind the community college and then can branch off a number of different ways. We would hike, but many of our neighbors biked through there as well since the paths are kept up so well. The location, being close enough to downtown Catonsville that my daughters could walk everywhere, but far enough away that we didn't get caught in downtown mayhem.
Our little neighborhood is probably the best kept secret in Catonsville. Block parties, community yard sales, community email for questions or recommendations etc, school bus stops, Santa on a fire truck, ice cream trucks, Halloween. It's full of great neighbors who take pride in their yards and houses and look out for each other.
We love Catonsville!! The 4th of July, Santa arriving at Xmas with fireworks in the downtown area, hiking in patapsco, Miracle on Maple, Trick or treat in the downtown, Music on the weekends (We would often walk to both, Farmers markets. So much to do. The elementary and high schools are terrific. Hillcrest elementary was amazing for our kids, and even though there was a bus, both girls could walk home in 20 minutes, which they loved doing when they were a little older.
We are spoilt for choice with all the great restaurants, but here are a few of our favorites. Matthews 1600, Chef Paolino's, Catonsville Gourmet, they all have great food, great people, fun and affordable.
Hillcrest elementary was amazing for our kids, and even though there was a bus, both girls could walk home in 20 minutes, which they loved doing when they were a little older. Some upgrades we invested in. We replaced the roof (still under warranty), hot water heater, main line drain and upgraded the incoming water line, washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, upgraded the filtration on furnace.
It's a great home in a wonderful neighborhood.
